Last Thursday I started with the Samsung team at one of the most famous nonstop cycling races in the world, the Tortour. I was very excited about it but also a bit nervous, because I didn’t know what to expect.
After the prologue on Thursday, which was a 1KM warm-up, we started at 4am for the first 30 KMs in the team. I know it might sound weird, but it was such an amazing feeling to start cycling in the dark at 4am! People always think you would feel very tired if you get up so early, but it depends on your state of mind if you feel tired or if you feel great.
We cycled 1000km around Switzerland in 32 hours and making 13000 meters of altitude. As we were a team of 6, we always had some time to recover for the next stage. Before I signed up for the Tortour I was very insure if my body could deliver a huge effort during 32 hours in a row. After some bad injuries, I had almost lost confidence in my body. But thanks to competing at the Tortour, delivering for a team, riding in the dark and enjoying Switzerland on the bike, I surpassed myself and regained my usual strength again.
